Supercritical CO₂ Static-Mixer Reactor Continuous Process High-Mw • Low PDI

Advanced Polymerization (PLA • PGA • PCL)

A four-stage process producing high-molecular-weight, low-polydispersity polymers: pre-polymerization → intermediate polymerization → final polymerization → devolatilization. Supercritical CO₂ improves heat and mass transfer, working together with a static mixing reactor and a specialized vessel for efficient removal of monomers, oligomers, and catalysts.

High Mw
Strong molecular build
Low PDI

Process Flow

1) Pre-Polymerization

Formation of oligomers under controlled conditions to limit side reactions and set up high-Mw growth.

2) Intermediate Polymerization

Conversion and viscosity increase under precise conditions.

3) Final Polymerization + Vessel

A static mixing reactor ensures uniform conditions. The stream then enters a vessel where volatiles are extracted with the help of supercritical CO₂.

4) Devolatilization

Dissolved CO₂ acts as an internal stripping agent, ensuring efficient removal of remaining impurities.
